At County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT), supporting our local communities is at the heart of what we do. Through initiatives like our Welcome Spaces, we’re making a difference for patients, visitors, and staff by providing a warm and welcoming environment during the colder months.

Located in the restaurants of Bishop Auckland and Darlington Memorial Hospitals, our Welcome Spaces are inviting areas where anyone can come to relax, enjoy a hot drink, and connect with others. Open every Thursday from 12 noon to 2 pm, these spaces offer complimentary tea, coffee, and a relaxing atmosphere.

The Welcome Spaces go beyond comfort—they also serve as community hubs. Here, visitors have access to information, guidance, and support from over 10 local organisations and voluntary groups. Whether it’s advice on health, well-being, or local resources, our guests can find support tailored to their needs, all in one place. It’s a space designed for community connection and for helping people through the challenges winter can bring.

The Welcome Spaces are just one way CDDFT Charity is actively working to make our hospitals places of comfort and support. Our collaboration with local organisations underscores our commitment to be more than just a healthcare provider—we’re part of the communities we serve.

At CDDFT Charity, we believe in the power of community. The Welcome Spaces are open to all, and we invite you to join us in creating a network of warmth, support, and connection. Whether you’re stopping by for a chat or simply looking for a place to unwind, the Welcome Spaces are here for you.
