Carly Lloyd won a Star Award

Each week we’re shining a spotlight on one of our #TeamCDDFT Star Award winners.

This week, we’re showcasing our Quality in Care Clinical Award! Massive thank you to Queensway Dental who sponsored the category.

The winner was Carly Lloyd – here is an extract from her nomination:

“Carly, a community palliative care nurse, was talking to a patient’s wife over the phone, when a smoke alarm could be heard in the background in the patient’s house. The patient’s wife went to investigate the alarm and found her husband in a hospital bed which has caught fire. Recognising the immediate danger to the patient and his wife, Carly alerted the fire service via 999 giving as much detail as she could to the operator. After ending the call, Carly got in her car and drove to the patient’s house. She remained calm, professional and most of all took leadership in the situation. Carly calmed the wife down to a point that she was able to be managed by the ambulance crew at scene, so her burns could be treated. The fire, police and ambulance service all praised Carly for her professionalism and courage that day, and said without her quick thinking and going beyond what was expected from a community nurse, the situation could have been a lot more devastating for the family.  The ambulance incident officer who attended the scene has emailed Carly and the team to give their thanks, and to acknowledge her courageous acts during the incident.”

Well done Carly, for winning this award and going beyond your job description to deliver the highest quality patient care. You will be receiving a year of letterbox flowers from Bloom & Wild worth £240. One again, thank you Queensway Dental.
